May 12, 2004: No subsidies in The Netherlands for some time to come. October 20003, the center-right administration has suddenly cut all subsidies for renewables and raised those taxes that were originally meant to pay the bill for subsidizing renewable energy. As a consequence, investment in renewable energy is down the drain and it is feared that The Netherlands is not going to meet its Kyoto committments. Yet the Dutch government firmly remains committed to green. It has suddenly put all its stakes on the massive burning on things like pig dung and waste (it's being called 'biomass')(!). At the local level, some cities and municipalities offer incentives of some sort (see the Dutch page on subsidies).

Citizens of other European countries are much better off than poor us, Dutchmen, at least if they have a government that does not pay lip service and window dressing like our government does. For instance, Germany, Spain, switzerland, Austria, Portugal, and even tiny Belgium offer government grants towards the installation of PV panels and thermal solar energy units, or they provide a generous environmen for their citizens who feed their solare lectricity back into the grid. -in of solar electricity

Abolishing subsidies is a clear example of preferring the 'business as usual' model.
